The Commissioner-General of the Internal Revenue Commission, Mr. Sam Koim, attended a two-day Asia Pacific Heads of Tax Administrations meeting last week.

The meeting was hosted virtually by Japan.

The meeting was beneficial as heads of Tax Administrations in the Asia Pacific region shared their experiences dealing with Covid and its impact on tax collections.

Mr. Koim says it was a very enriching and insightful meeting with tax administrations in the region have been compelled by the Covid 19 constraints to move away from paper-based and physical interactions and are adopting digital technology to do business.

Highlighting PNG's efforts, Mr. Koim says, IRC faced enormous challenges in the last two years as they had to make some critical decisions to mitigate the risks and allow their core revenue collection businesses to continue.

He says IRC has initiated several immediate interventions to rescue potential revenue losses from the impacts of Covid tracking on course to meet its revenue target of K8.1billion as projected in the budget.
