Police in Manus are now investigating a Break and Enter and robbery incident at the Covid-19 Quarantine facilities at ward 2, Lorengau town.

Manus Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu, says the suspects cut through to the wire fence at the back of the facility and broke into the 24 quarantine rooms stealing 24 thick bed mattresses; 3 bar fridges, some furniture and electrical appliances. They also tried to remove the air conditions.

PPC Yapu, who is also the Deputy Provincial Controller for Manus estimates the total goods stolen amount to over thousands of kina.

The incident occurred between the 12th and 16th July but police received this report on Monday this week, after health officers discovered the incident.

A frustrated PPC Yapu says, the quarantine facilities is provided by the Manus Provincial Health Authority to accommodate Covid 19 patients.

He says, it cost a lot of money to make those facilities available.

PPC Yapus says, without the proper accomodation materials, the center is unable to continue help quarantine COVID-19 patients.

He is calling on community leaders and the community to help police in apprehending the suspects involved.
